Out with the heavy winter cover-ups, dark evenings inside and temptation of winter comfort foods. In with new growth and rejuvenation, longer evenings, sunshine and outdoor activity. Let’s do this; spring is here!
Spring and summer are great times to change up your routine, be active and eat healthy. By getting into the season, you can have fun, learn something new and move your body in new and productive ways that will equal success in weight loss or weight maintenance.
Here are four ways to revitalize and recharge your batteries:
1. Do your own lawn work.
Get some additional exercise by raking your own emerging lawn. It’s a great workout in the sun, and after you can sit back and bask in the beauty of fresh spring grass. Every week, walk behind the mower and save yourself money while getting in a satisfying workout.
2. Wash your car by hand.
Think of the calories you’ll burn and the heads that will turn as you drive down the road in your sparkling, clean car.
3. Groom your own landscaping.
Do your shrubs need a good grooming and your flowerpots a bit of scrubbing? Cleaning can be a great workout. After you’re done, hit the greenhouse to grab some of nature’s finest plants to enjoy all season.
4. Grow your own salad garden.
What better way to learn where vegetables come from than by growing your own? Gardening is a fun activity for the whole family, and once you eat a freshly picked piece of produce, you’ll understand the appeal of growing your own vegetables. Once you have your greens growing, try one of my favorite recipes for a fresh garden salad:
Glowing Green Garden Salad
Prep time: 10 minutes
- 8 cups mixed greens, washed and dried
- 1 cucumber washed and sliced thinly
- 1 summer squash, washed and diced
- 20 grape tomatoes or 2 tomatoes chopped
- Optional: sliced red onion, minced garlic, sliced mushroom, sliced red and green bell peppers
Mix ingredients in a large bowl. Place on four serving plates and pass around your family’s favorite Profile Salad Dressing. Then sit back and enjoy the food you brought to life!
