At the grocery store, you’re surrounded by thousands of choices. So what should make it from the shelf to your shopping cart?
To celebrate National Registered Dietitian Day, we’ve created this handy chart to help you distinguish a good food choice from a great one – like having an RD right in your shopping cart.
Healthier choices don’t begin and end at nutrition labels. Following a few overall shopping tips can also help you make better decisions about what goes in your cart:
- Always use a list.
- Never shop when you’re hungry.
- Try to plan a weekly menu; you’re less likely to make impulse buys.
- Start shopping around the perimeter of the grocery store. This way you fill your cart with produce, protein and dairy first, avoiding interior aisles with processed foods.
Happy (and healthy) shopping!
